Yum! I finally learned how to make a real pie crust. This pie was absolutely tangy, sweet, buttery, crispy delicious.
This was fun to braid the pie top. It makes it look so home-made! It also was a LOT of work! My sister had taught me how to make a pie-crust a few days before- and it seemed to go so smooth when she was there. Her food processor handled all the butter much more easily than mine did, and I ended up doing my crust in 4 batches instead of 2- and I had to do a little more of the butter mashing by hand (just what had prevented me from making pie crusts for the past 2 years). But all in all it was SO worth it. And now i'm not afraid to make pies! I'm excited!
I made this about 2 weeks ago, but I had to post my accomplisment. Blueberries, raspberries and strawberries inside. Butter, flour and fresh ground raw almonds outside. Serve with natural vanilla (real!) ice cream made with guess what? cream! ( Many ice creams are made with high fructose corn syrup- call it ice syrup with cream flavoring?) I think it's already time to make another one.
